Paisley Smash

This is a shirt I made with the help from a friend. We made the shirt from a 1970's pattern that we found on E-Bay.com. We prefer vintage clothing because the sizes tend to run smaller.

The fabric I chose for this shirt was a fun black and white paisley print I found at the Fabric Warehouse in Rahway New Jersey. The moment I saw the fabric I knew it would make one of the coolest shirts, and it did. I decided to use snaps rather than buttons because I though that having buttons on such a loud print would detract from the overall piece. It took just about 3 whole yards of fabric just to make this shirt. The good thing about paisley is that it is very unlikely that it will go out of fashion. Although the pattern of the shirt was not fully my design, I made a few minor alterations to my own preferences in clothing design. What I like most about this shirt is the snug fit and my choice of fabric.

This was my first time really diving into patterns and making a mens button down shirt. I must say that this shirt came out flawless. The key to having these perfect seams is to iron iron iron. The cost to make this shirt was about eleven dollars, but it has the look of being almost costing one hundred dollars. Making this shirt has been one of my attempts of diving head first into learning more about design concepts, patterns, details, and choice of fabric. I am confident to say that this shirt is without a doubt a smash.
